ઉત્તર પ્રદેશમાં જાહેર આરોગ્ય સુવિધાના પ્રસૂતિ અથવા બાળ ચિકિત્સા વોર્ડમાં દાખલ થાઓ તો શક્ય છે કે તમને “પુરુષો કા પ્રવેશ નિષેધ હૈ” (પુરુષોને પ્રવેશની મંજૂરી નથી) લખેલી એક નિશાની જોવા મળે. તેની પાછળનું કારણ છે નવજાત શિશુની સંભાળમાં, એના પાલનપોષણમાં પુરૂષોની ભૂમિકા વિશેની ધારણા – સ્થાનિક હોસ્પિટલના સંચાલકો ઘણીવાર માને છે કે એમાં પુરૂષોની કોઈ ભૂમિકા હોતી નથી અને વોર્ડમાં તેમની હાજરી ભીડનું કારણ બનશે અને\/અથવા મહિલાઓ અસુરક્ષિતતા અનુભવશે.<\/p>

ઓગસ્ટ 2022 માં ઉનાળાના ધોમ ધખતા દિવસે, નિઝામને જાણ કરવામાં આવી હતી કે તેમ<\/a>ની પત્ની, મીનાને અધૂરા માસે વેણ ઉપડ્યું છે અને થોડા સમયમાં એક મોટી સાર્વજનિક હોસ્પિટલમાં તેમના પર સિઝેરિયન સેક્શન શસ્ત્રક્રિયા કરવામાં આવશે. નિઝામ દિલ્હીમાં સ્થળાંતરિત મજૂર તરીકે કામ કરતા હતા, તેઓ ત્યાંથી ઝડપભેર પૂર્વીય ઉત્તર પ્રદેશમાં પોતાને ઘેર જવા નીકળ્યા. રસ્તામાં તેમને જાણ થઈ કે મીનાએ જોડિયા બાળકોને જન્મ આપ્યો છે; દરેક બાળકનું વજન 1.6 કિલોગ્રામ હતું- જે જન્મ સમયે નવજાત શિશુના સામાન્ય વજન – 2.5 કિલોગ્રામ – કરતાં ઘણું ઓછું હતું.<\/p>

અધૂરા માસે જન્મેલા અને ઓછા વજનવાળા બાળકો પોતાના શરીરના તાપમાનને નિયંત્રિત કરવા માટે વારંવાર સંઘર્ષ કરે છે અને તેમના ફીડિંગ રીફ્લેક્સીસ પણ અવિકસિત હોય છે, તેથી નિઝામ અને મીનાના જોડિયા બાળકોને હોસ્પિટલના સ્તનપાન અને નવજાત શિશુ સંભાળ કાર્યક્રમ હેઠળ દાખલ કરવામાં આવ્યા હતા. બીમાર અને અધૂરા માસે જન્મેલા નવજાત શિશુની સંભાળ રાખવામાં પરિવારને, ખાસ કરીને પિતાને, સામેલ કરવા અંગેની શક્યતા બાબતે વિચારીને<\/a> ઘડેલી સરકારી માર્ગદર્શિકા હોવા છતાં – બીજી ઘણી હોસ્પિટલોની જેમ જ – આ હોસ્પિટલ પણ નવજાત સઘન સંભાળ એકમ (નિયોનેટલ ઇન્ટેન્સિવ કેર યુનિટ) માં પિતાને બાળક અને માતા સાથે હાજર રહેવાની મંજૂરી આપતી નથી. જો કે નિઝામના કિસ્સામાં જોડિયા બાળકોની સંભાળ રાખવાના સમજી શકાય એવા પડકારને લઈને તેઓએ અપવાદ રૂપે નિઝામને પરવાનગી આપી હતી.<\/p>

પરિણામે નિઝામને એક મહિના સુધી, નવજાત બાળકોને હોસ્પિટલમાંથી ઘેર લઈ જવાની રજા મળી ત્યાં સુધી, તેમની સાથે રહેવાની અનોખી તક મળી. સામાન્ય સંજોગોમાં તેમની પત્નીએ બાળકોને જન્મ આપ્યાના એક મહિનાની અંદર તેઓ પત્નીને છોડીને કામના સ્થળે જતા રહ્યા હોત. પરંતુ આ વખતે તેઓ ત્રણ મહિનાથી ઘેર છે, અને જોડિયા સંપૂર્ણ સ્વસ્થ ન થાય ત્યાં સુધી ઘેર જ રહેવા ધારે છે. તેઓ કહે છે, “મારા જોડિયા બાળકોની સાથે મેં વધુ સમય ગાળ્યો હોવાથી મારા મોટા બાળકોની સરખામણીમાં મને તેમના પ્રત્યે વધુ લગાવ અને પ્રેમ છે. એ બાળકોને પણ મારી સાથે વધારે લગાવ છે. હું કામ પરથી ઘેર આવું કે તરત જ તેઓ મારી પાસે આવવા માટે રડવા લાગે છે અને વાંદરાના બચ્ચાંની જેમ મને વળગી પડે છે.”<\/p>

મીનાને પણ લાગે છે કે નિઝામની મદદ મળવાથી તેમને ફાયદો થયો છે. શસ્ત્રક્રિયા પછીના દુખાવાએ ખોરાક ખાવા અને દવાઓ લેવા જેવા સરળ કાર્યોને પણ જટિલ બનાવી દીધા હતા, તેથી નિઝામની મદદ ન હોત બાળકોની સંભાળ રાખવાનું શક્ય બન્યું ન હોત. મીના કહે છે, “જો નિઝામની મદદ ન હોત તો મારે હોસ્પિટલ છોડીને વહેલા ઘેર આવી જવું પડ્યું હોત.”<\/p>

પિતા બાળકોની યોગ્ય સંભાળ લઈ શકે<\/a> છે તે સૂચવવા માટે પૂરતા તબીબી પુરાવા<\/a> છે. જો કે, પિતૃત્વ સંબંધિત પિતૃસત્તાક લૈંગિક ધારાધોરણોનું<\/a> પાલન કરવા માટે પિતાને સહન કરવા પડતા સામાજિક દબાણો એ પુરાવાથી દૂર થતા નથી. બાળસંભાળને સામાન્ય રીતે એક મહિલાનું કાર્યક્ષેત્ર ગણવામાં આવે છે, અને પિતા જો બાળકની સંભાળ રાખવાની ફરજોમાં ભાગ લેવા માગતા હોય તો તેમને ઘણીવાર એમ ન કરવા સમજાવવામાં આવે છે. પોતાના નવજાત બાળકોની સંભાળ રાખવામાં ખૂબ મદદ કરનાર બીજા એક પિતા પુત્તન કહે છે, “કેટલાક પરિચિતો કહેતા હતા કે આ બધું કંઈ પુરુષનું કામ નથી અને મારે આ રીતે બાળકોની કાળજી ન લેવી જોઈએ.” પરંતુ તેમણે આવી ટીકા-ટિપ્પણીઓને ગણકારી નહીં. તેઓ ઉમેરે છે, “આજકાલ મહિલાઓ બધું જ કરી રહી છે. તેઓ અધિકારી અને ડોક્ટર બની રહ્યા છે, તો પછી પુરુષો કેમ બધું ન કરી શકે? જો પતિ-પત્ની એકબીજાને સાથ નહીં આપે તો જિંદગી શી રીતે ચાલશે?”<\/p>
