22 વર્ષની ઉંમરે મેં ક્ષેત્રીય કાર્યકર (ફિલ્ડવર્કર) તરીકેની મારી કારકિર્દી શરૂ કરી હતી. હવે, 52 વર્ષની ઉંમરે, ફરી એકવાર હું સામાજિક ક્ષેત્રમાં નોકરી શોધવાનો પ્રયાસ કરી રહ્યો છું. | ચિત્ર સૌજન્ય: ઉદયસિંહ મકવાણા<\/figcaption><\/figure>

હું ગુજરાતના સાબરકાંઠા જિલ્લાના પ્રેમપુર ગામનો રહેવાસી છું. સામાજિક ક્ષેત્રમાં 30 વર્ષ વિતાવ્યા પછી હાલ હું નોકરી શોધી રહ્યો છું. અગાઉ આ ક્ષેત્રમાં કાર્યરત મારા ઘણા મિત્રોએ હવે મને બીજા ક્ષેત્રમાં કામ કરવાનું વિચારવાની સલાહ આપી છે.<\/p>

મેં 22 વર્ષની ઉંમરે દિશા નામની સંસ્થા સાથે ફિલ્ડવર્કર તરીકે મારી કારકિર્દી શરૂ કરી હતી. પછીથી મને દિશા દ્વારા ચલાવવામાં આવતા ગુજરાત ખેત કામદાર યુનિયન (જીએએલયુ) ના સેક્રેટરી (મંત્રી) તરીકે નિયુક્ત કરવામાં આવ્યો હતો. તે સમયે આ યુનિયનમાં આશરે 585 સભ્યો હતા. ભંડોળના અભાવે લગભગ 18 વર્ષની લાંબી સફર પછી અમારે અમારું કામ બંધ કરવું પડ્યું. જ્યારે મને મારી ફરજોમાંથી મુક્ત કરવામાં આવ્યો ત્યારે યુનિયનની સભ્યસંખ્યા વધીને 59,400 સુધી પહોંચી ગઈ હતી અને તેણે પોતાની એક અલગ ઓળખ સ્થાપિત કરી હતી.<\/p>

હવે હું લગભગ 40 વર્ષનો હતો ત્યારે ફરી એક વાર નોકરી શોધી રહ્યો હતો. મેં સંવેદના ટ્રસ્ટ ખાતે એક વર્ષ ગાળ્યું, ત્યાં મેં આદિવાસી સમુદાયો, શિક્ષણ અને મજૂરી સંબંધિત સમસ્યાઓ પર કામ કર્યું. આ ઉપરાંત મેં પંચાયતો સાથે કામ કરતી સંસ્થા, પાથેયને તેમનું બજેટ તૈયાર કરવામાં અને આયોજન પ્રક્રિયાઓમાં સહાય પૂરી પાડી. વધુમાં, અસંગઠિત કામદારોને લઘુત્તમ વેતન,આરટીઆઈ અને વિવિધ સરકારી યોજનાઓ વિશે માહિતી પૂરી પાડવા મેં અમદાવાદમાં સોલિડેરિટી સેન્ટર સાથે કામ કર્યું.<\/p>

આ નાના-નાના પ્રોજેક્ટ્સ પછી 2016 માં મને રાજસ્થાનમાં લોકતંત્ર શાળા સાથે ત્રણ વર્ષની ફેલોશિપનો ભાગ બનવાની તક મળી, ત્યાં મેં ખેતમજૂરો અને મનરેગા શ્રમિકો સાથે કામ કર્યું. ફેલોશિપ પૂરી કર્યા પછી જૂન 2019 માં હું ચાઇલ્ડલાઇન 1098 માં સંયોજક તરીકે જોડાયો. જોકે, કેન્દ્ર સરકારે આ યોજના બંધ કર્યા પછી જુલાઈ 2023 માં ચાઇલ્ડલાઇન બંધ થઈ ગઈ<\/a>.<\/p>

હવે 52 વર્ષની ઉંમરે ફરી એકવાર હું સામાજિક ક્ષેત્રમાં નોકરી શોધવાનો પ્રયાસ કરી રહ્યો છું.<\/p>

આખી જિંદગી આ ક્ષેત્રમાં કામ કર્યું હોવાથી અને આ ક્ષેત્રમાં ઊંડો રસ હોવાથી મેં કેટલીક જાણીતી સંસ્થાઓનો સંપર્ક કરવાનું શરૂ કર્યું. તેમના પ્રતિભાવો હકારાત્મક હતા પરંતુ તેમનો જવાબ આખરે એ જ હતો, “તમારે લાયક કોઈ કામ હશે તો અમે ચોક્કસપણે તમને જણાવીશું.”<\/p>

પાણી અને જૈવિક (ઓર્ગેનિક) ખેતી પર કામ કરતી એક સંસ્થાએ મને કહ્યું કે ગુજરાતમાં હવે તેમના કામ માટેનું ભંડોળ ઘટી ગયું છે તેથી તેઓ નવા લોકોને નોકરી પર રાખી શકતા નથી. આદિવાસી ખેડૂતો સાથે કામ કરતી એક સંસ્થાએ કહ્યું કે તેમની પાસે મારે લાયક કોઈ પ્રોજેક્ટ નથી. સરકારી પ્રોજેક્ટ સાથે સંકળાયેલી એક બીજી સંસ્થાએ મને સ્પષ્ટપણે કહ્યું, “તમે ખૂબ વૃદ્ધ છો. અમે ફક્ત યુવાન કામદારોને નોકરી પર રાખીએ છીએ.”<\/p>

આ પ્રક્રિયાથી મને સખ્યાલ આવ્યો કે દરેક સંસ્થાની ભરતીની નીતિઓ અલગ હોય છે, જેમ કે કાર્યકરોની ઉંમર, તેમને પ્રોજેક્ટ કેટલા સમય માટે સોંપવામાં આવે અને તેઓ કઈ સામાજિક પૃષ્ઠભૂમિના હોવા જોઈએ. આ માપદંડોમાં અનુભવને સમાવવાનું કદાચ મુશ્કેલ હોય છે.<\/p>

પરિસ્થિતિને ધ્યાનમાં લઈને મારી આસપાસના લોકોએ મને બીજા કોઈ ક્ષેત્રમાં કામ શોધવાનું સૂચન કર્યું. પરંતુ મેં એટલી નાની ઉંમરે સામાજિક ક્ષેત્રમાં દિલથી કામ કરવાનું શરૂ કરી દીધું હતું કે 52 વર્ષની ઉંમરે નવેસરથી શરૂઆત કરવી મારે માટે ખૂબ મુશ્કેલ છે. મને લાગે છે કે હું બીજા કોઈ ક્ષેત્ર સાથે ન્યાય કરી શકીશ નહીં, અને તેમાં કામ કરવાથી મને સંતોષની લાગણી પણ થશે નહીં. આ જ કારણે મારા પડકારો અને મારી શોધ બંને ચાલુ રહે છે.<\/p>

જોકે મારા મનમાં એક પ્રશ્ન ચોક્કસ ઉઠે છે કે શું નાની અને મોટી સંસ્થાઓ પાયાના કાર્યકરોના ભવિષ્યને સુરક્ષિત કરવા માટે કોઈ પગલાં લઈ રહી છે ખરી.<\/p>
