છત્તીસગઢના ગૌરેલા-પેંડ્રા-મરવાહી જિલ્લામાં, મુખ્યત્વે ગૌરેલા બ્લોકની 13 ગ્રામ પંચાયતોના 19 ગામો (ટોલા\/પારા) માં બૈગા સમુદાય – એક પર્ટિક્યુલરલી વલ્નરેબલ ટ્રાઇબલ ગ્રુપ (પીવીટીજી – ખાસ કરીને સંવેદનશીલ આદિવાસી જૂથ) – રહે છે. જંગલ બૈગા સમુદાયના લોકોના જીવનનો આધાર છે. તેઓ પરંપરાગત કૃષિ પેદાશો, જડીબુટ્ટીઓ (ઔષધીય વનસ્પતિઓ), લાકડા, ફળો, શાકભાજી અને બીજી જરૂરિયાતો જંગલમાંથી મેળવે છે. ફોરેસ્ટ રાઈટ એક્ટ (એફઆરએ – વન અધિકાર અધિનિયમ), 2006 ની કલમ 3(1)(e<\/a>) હેઠળ બૈગા જનજાતિને 2023 માં રહેઠાણના અધિકારો આપવામાં આવ્યા હતા; આ અધિકારો મળતા જંગલ સાથેનો તેમનો સંબંધ બદલાઈ ગયો છે.<\/p>

આ પ્રદેશના ઓગણીસ ગામોએ તેમના રહેઠાણના અધિકારોને માન્યતા અપાવવા માટે એફઆરએ જાગૃતિ પર કામ કરતી સંસ્થા, નવ નિર્માણ ચેતના મંચ, સાથે મળીને કામ કર્યું હતું. આ અધિકાર પીવીટીજી અને બીજા વનવાસીઓને ટકાઉ ઉપયોગ અને સાંસ્કૃતિક સંરક્ષણ માટે તેમના પૂર્વજોની જમીનનો કબજો આપે છે.<\/p>

કાનૂની માન્યતા પ્રાપ્ત થયા પછી સમુદાયના સભ્યોએ જંગલ અને તેના માળખાને મજબૂત બનાવવામાં વધુ અસરકારક રીતે કેવી રીતે યોગદાન આપવું તે અંગે ચર્ચા કરવાનું શરૂ કર્યું હતું. પાંચ ગામોના લોકોએ મળીને પરંપરાગત જ્ઞાનને જાળવી રાખવા અને સમયની સાથે સાથે જંગલો અને સંસાધનોમાં થયેલા ફેરફારોને સમજવા માટે વન સંસાધનોનું દસ્તાવેજીકરણ અને વ્યવસ્થાપન કરવાનું શરૂ કર્યું હતું.<\/p>

આ પ્રયાસના ભાગ રૂપે સમુદાયના સભ્યોએ સામૂહિક રીતે મોસમી સંસાધનોનું નકશાંકન (સિઝનલ રિસોર્સ મેપિંગ) શરૂ કર્યું હતું.<\/p>

ગામલોકોએ વિસ્તારોને 40×40 મીટરના પ્લોટમાં વિભાજીત કરીને તેમનું નકશાંકન કર્યું હતું. વિસ્તારોનું નકશાંકન કરવા માટે વન વિભાગ દ્વારા ફાળવવામાં આવેલા કમ્પાર્ટમેન્ટ નંબરનો ઉપયોગ કરવાને બદલે અમે વિસ્તારોને નામ આપવાની પરંપરાગત પદ્ધતિને અનુસરીએ છીએ. ઉદાહરણ તરીકે, જે વિસ્તારમાં રીંછ અથવા ભાલુ અવારનવાર જોવા મળતા હોય એ વિસ્તારને ભાલુમારા કહેવામાં આવે છે.<\/p>

અમે વિવિધ ઋતુઓ દરમિયાન હાલમાં કયા કઠોળ, પાંદડાવાળા શાકભાજી અને ઔષધીય વનસ્પતિઓ ઉપલબ્ધ છે તેનું દસ્તાવેજીકરણ કરીએ છીએ.<\/p>

છેલ્લા પાંચ વર્ષોમાં, આબોહવા પરિવર્તન, અનિયમિત વરસાદ, ઓછો વરસાદ અને સમુદાય દ્વારા સ્થળાંતરિત ખેતી કરવાનું બંધ થવાથી જંગલ કુદરતી રીતે પુનર્જીવિત થઈ શકતું નથી, પરિણામે કઠોળની કેટલીક જાતો ધીમે ધીમે લુપ્ત થઈ ગઈ છે. આજે સ્થળાંતરિત ખેતીની આ પ્રથા હવે એટલી પ્રચલિત નથી, અને એની સાથે ઘણા પરંપરાગત ખાદ્ય પદાર્થોની ઉપલબ્ધતા પણ હવે ઓછી થઈ ગઈ છે.<\/p>

અગાઉ અરહર (તુવેર) ની પાંચ જાતો મળતી હતી, હવે એટલી જાતો મળતી નથી.<\/p>

તેવી જ રીતે, શિયાળામાં એકઠી કરવામાં આવતી અને ઉનાળામાં શરીરને ઠંડુ રાખવા માટે ખાવામાં આવતી ભાજી, ડોડ્ડે ભાજી – હવે એટલી સહેલાઈથી મળતી નથી. સાલના વૃક્ષો વિપુલ પ્રમાણમાં જોવા મળે છે, પરંતુ ગુજ્જા, સેઝા અને ધાવા જેવી પ્રજાતિઓ ઘણી ઓછી સંખ્યામાં જોવા મળે છે. તીન પનિયા, ગૌઠેર, દૂધિયા, ચિરાયતા, હસિયાદેબો, ગુલ સિક્રી અને બડકા દવા (એનિમિયાની સારવાર માટે વપરાતી દવા) – જેવી જડીબુટ્ટીઓ હજી સુધી ક્યાંય જોવા મળી નથી.<\/p>

જોકે, કેટલાક નાના-નાના છોડ ફરીથી ઉગવા લાગ્યા છે; ઉદાહરણ તરીકે, ઝાડુ બનાવવા માટે વપરાતો છોડ બહરી (સાવરણીનું ઘાસ). જંગલોમાં આગ લાગવાની ઘટનાઓ પણ ઓછી થઈ છે કારણ કે દરેક વ્યક્તિ આ વિસ્તારોની સંભાળ રાખવી એ પોતાની જવાબદારી છે એમ સમજે છે.<\/p>

અમે જંગલમાંથી કાઢવામાં આવતા સંસાધનોના વિગતવાર રેકોર્ડ જાળવીએ છીએ, તેનાથી દરેક સંસાધનનો કેટલો હિસ્સો અસ્તિત્વમાં છે તેની સ્પષ્ટ સમજ ઊભી થઈ છે. અગાઉ, લોકો આવી જાગૃતિ વિના તેમને જે જોઈએ તે એકઠું કરતા હતા. લુપ્ત થવાને આરે આવેલ સંસાધનો\/પ્રજાતિઓ વિશેની માહિતી દરેક વ્યક્તિ સુધી પહોંચી છે, અને લોકો તેમના સંરક્ષણ પ્રત્યે વધુ સભાન બન્યા છે.<\/p>

સમુદાય સાંસ્કૃતિક રીતે સ્થાપિત પ્રથાઓ દ્વારા પર્યાવરણીય સંતુલન કેવી રીતે જાળવી રાખે છે એ દસ્તાવેજીકૃત કરવામાં પણ આનાથી અમને મદદ મળે છે. ઉદાહરણ તરીકે, બૈગા સંસ્કૃતિમાં કુળો મહત્વપૂર્ણ ભૂમિકા ભજવે છે. દરેક કુળ ચોક્કસ પ્રાણી, પક્ષી અથવા છોડ સાથે સંકળાયેલું છે. બૈગા જાતિમાં કોર્ચો કુળના લોકો વાંસની ડાળીઓ (વાંસના કૂણા અંકુર) ખાતા નથી, જોકે બીજા કુળના એ લોકો ખાય છે. તેવી જ રીતે, ખોરિયા કુળના લોકો કાચબા ખાતા નથી.<\/p>

મહિલાઓ અને પુરુષો બંને સંરક્ષણ અને વ્યવસ્થાપનના આ કામમાં સામેલ છે; મહિલાઓ ખાસ કરીને મુખ્ય સમિતિની જવાબદારીઓ પણ સંભાળે છે. ‘અમારા વિના જંગલ નહીં અને જંગલ વિના અમે નહીં’ એ માન્યતા સમુદાયમાં વધુ મજબૂત બની છે.<\/p>
