Education ministry launches ‘SARTHAQ’ to implement NEP 2020

Education: Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal has launched the Students’ and Teachers’ Holistic Advancement through Quality Education (SARTHAQ)—an implementation plan for the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

SARTHAQ has been developed in consultation with states and union territories, as well as autonomous bodies and other stakeholders. “Around 7177 suggestions/inputs were received from them,” said the education ministry.

SARTHAQ outlines the roadmap for the implementation of NEP 2020 over the next 10 years. However, keeping in mind that education is a concurrent subject—which means that states have the freedom to decide how a central policy will be implemented—states and union territories have been given the freedom to adapt the plan to their local context and modify it as per their needs and requirements

The NEP 2020 was approved by the Union Cabinet of India in July 2020. It replaced NEP 1986 and proposed sweeping changes in schools and higher education.
