Students can take 40 percent of their course online: UGC

Education: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has published new regulations which will allow universities across the country to offer 40 percent of their courses online via the SWAYAM (Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds) platform.

SWAYAM is India’s Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) platform. UGC as the national coordinator for non-technology postgraduate courses has developed 145 MOOCs and offered 208 MOOCs on the SWAYAM platform.

The Commission, in its new directive, has said that every higher education institution must offer online courses within four weeks from the date of publication of these regulations in the official Gazette. It also added that, “no university shall refuse any student credit mobility for courses earned through SWAYAM platform.”

This new directive by UGC will help students follow a blended model of education in the future.
