Water & Sanitation: In line with its annual plan under the Jal Jeevan Mission, the Maharashtra government plans to provide 27.45 lakh drinking water tap connections to 13 districts, 131 blocks, and over 12,000 villages in FY 2021-22.
The state is expected to receive central government funding worth INR 3,000 crore to implement this programme.
As per its annual plan, the state aims to impart training to 42,000 personnel at the state and district levels. These include those engaged in water and sanitation missions, the engineering cadre, as well as the programme management unit staff. Additionally, training will also be provided to 72,000 tradespersons including masons, plumbers, fitters, motor mechanics, and pump operators, whose supplementary services will be required to build water supply services.
Of the 1.42 crore households in the state, 91 lakh already have access to piped drinking water. In FY 2020-21, the state government provided 37.15 lakh connections and as of May 3rd, 2021, 8,629 villages have benefitted from tap water connections since the launch of the mission in 2019.
