The cost of divorce in Rajasthan’s Rabari community
In the nomadic Rabari community, divorce is associated with unique traditional practices such as an exchange of livestock between families, in lieu of legal separation.

Erum Shakeel works with Lend-A-Hand India to integrate vocational education with mainstream education. She implemented the National Rural Livelihood Mission for women’s self-help groups in Rajasthan as a young professional in the Rajasthan Grameen Aajeevika Vikas Parishad. She has worked at the grassroots with nomadic, semi-nomadic, and denotified tribes in Kashmir, Bangalore, Tuticorin, and Sirohi on financial inclusion, skill development, health, nutrition, and gender inequality. Erum is a postgraduate in development from Azim Premji University.
