India’s COVID-19 response limited by strong urban and tech bias
India's response to the second wave of COVID-19 glosses over the lack of infrastructure and technology know-how in rural India.
Roopali Pavnikar is an entrepreneur who runs a T-shirt manufacturing enterprise in Pune, Maharashtra. She initially set up her tailoring business to help support her family after an unexpected medical emergency. With a small loan from Mann Deshi, she bought her first sewing machine. As Roopali's business grew, she scaled up her work and today she designs and manufactures T-shirts and other sports clothing. She is the recipient of the prestigious Mann Deshi Udyogini (business woman) Award and regularly mentors hundreds of aspiring entrepreneurs.
