Health: Two days after the Government of India directed states to stop all fresh registrations citing fraudulent entries, the process of COVID-19 vaccine registrations for healthcare workers (HCW) and frontline workers (FLW) has resumed. The new registrations can, however, only take place at government vaccination centres.
This applies to healthcare and frontline workers between the ages of 18 and 44 years.
In a letter to the states, Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan wrote, “Onsite registration facility for genuinely leftover HCWs/FLWs will henceforth be available only in the government CVCs”. He added that they will have to produce a copy of their employment certificate in addition to their photo ID.
On Saturday, Bhushan had asked states to stop fresh registrations citing an inexplicable 24 percent rise in the HCW database in a short period of time, noting that these were likely to be registrations of ineligible individuals.
