Collective memory protects a forest in Rajasthan
The boundaries of Devbani (sacred grove) are etched in the cultural memory of the Gujjars in Alwar, and they continue to use this to foil encroachment attempts.
Aman Singh is the founder of Krishi Avam Paristhitiki Vikas Sansthan (KRAPAVIS), an Alwar-based nonprofit that works on ecology and agriculture in various parts of Rajasthan. Aman has more than three decades of experience in community conservation and rural livelihoods, and has worked extensively on community restoration of orans (sacred groves). He holds an MSc degree and has also completed an environmental leadership course at University of California. Under his leadership, KRAPAVIS was awarded the prestigious India Biodiversity Award 2021.
