It’s time to step up for street vendors’ rights
If implemented effectively, the Street Vendors Act, 2014 is an opportunity to prioritise the welfare of the urban poor and enhance their livelihoods.
Aravind Unni is an urban rights activist and researcher associated with the National Hawker Federation. His interests lie in urbanisation and its intersection with poverty in cities. Over the last ten years Aravind has contributed to participatory planning, formulating policy recommendations for housing and livelihoods, while advocating for equitable and just cities. He currently works with street vendor collectives to better implement the Street Vendors Act 2014.
