A play for land: Women in Assam present their stories
Street plays in Majuli have historically portrayed religious themes, but a recent rendition sheds light on the need for women’s land rights.

Pronamika Pegu Doley is one of the directors of Lekope Majuli Women Farmer Producer Company. She promotes Lekope across Majuli and collectivises women farmers to market farm products such as mustard oil, joha rice, and pickle, as well as handloom and handicrafts. The company has more than 800 members, with more women expected to join in the near future.
