India’s COVID-19 response limited by strong urban and tech bias

Vini Mahajan is a retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1987 batch, Punjab cadre. Over her 37-year career, she held several key positions in both the state and central governments. She served as Secretary, Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (Ministry of Jal Shakti) from January 2022-October 2024. She was the first woman Chief Secretary of Punjab. Vini holds a B.A. (Honours) in Economics from Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi University, and an MBA from IIM Calcutta, where she was placed on the Roll of Honour and later awarded the Distinguished Alumnus award.
