Author and professor Dr Ram Puniyani shares his experiences and insights on communal harmony, democratic values, pluralism, and social cohesion in India.

Dr Ram Puniyani is a noted social thinker and vocal advocate of secular values. He is the president of the Centre for Study of Society and Secularism. Through workshops, lectures, and study sessions across the country, he has sought to raise awareness about democracy, the Constitution, and human rights. Dr Ram has authored several books on terrorism, social justice, and nationalism. In addition to traditional media, he has actively used digital platforms, such as e-mail networks, websites, and YouTube, for widespread dissemination of fact-based content.

In this interview with IDR, Dr Ram speaks at length about the growing influence of communalism in India, the limitations of social movements, and the role of media and propaganda, along with the responsibility of institutions to counter the same. He discusses the importance of safeguarding democracy through active citizen participation, mutual dialogue, and a steadfast commitment to constitutional morality.
